Perineural Injection Therapy

About Perineural Injection Therapy

What is Perineural Injection Therapy?

Perineural Injection Therapy is a type of interventional pain management technique that involves the injection of a buffered dextrose solution (dextrose 5% in sterile water with a neutral pH of 7.4) around the peripheral/subcutaneous nerves. The treatment was developed by Dr John Lyftogt, a New Zealand General Practitioner. The success rate of a series of these injections is thought to be as high as 90%.

The goal of Perineural Injection Therapy is to provide pain relief by blocking the transmission of pain signals from the affected nerve to the central nervous system. This type of therapy is very useful for treating acute sporting injuries like tendon sprains and strains to more long-standing issues such as chronic pain, neuropathic pain, and certain types of headaches and back pain. The procedure is considered extremely safe with minimal risks and side effects.

What can be treated using Perineural Injection Therapy?

Headaches, Migraines, Backs, Necks, Shoulders, Elbows, Jaws, Knees, Ankles and Feet.
